Vaðalfjöll are two rocky outcrops sticking conspicuously out a hundred metres above Þorskafjarðarheiði pass, near Þorskafjörður fjord. The rocks are an unmistakeable sight and worth looking out for as you explore Reykhólahreppur municipality. The view from the top is truly magnificent, offering a clear sight into the Westfjords, along with a view over Breiðafjörður and across the Dalir area. The mountains are visible from afar when driving towards Hótel Bjarkalundur.
The hike to Vaðalfjöll begins at Hotel Bjarkalundur, though the starting point is somewhat hard to find-it's behind the furthest summer house, on the right side of the hotel, and leads upwards through birch bushes rather than down into the ravine. Once the trail is found, it's relatively easy to follow it to the mountains, as it is marked all the way to the two peaks. However, the path around the peaks is unmarked and can be quite rocky in some places. On the northern side, there is a cairn, from which there is a great view over Berufjörður and Þorskafjörður.
Note that the peaks are only climbable from the western side and are suitable only for experienced climbers, as the slope reaches about 45 degrees.
